Youth, 8th grade and older, will need to make a clear choice together with their parents, catechists, and clergy about their readiness to become candidates for preparation to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation.

For 2008-09, the parish of St. Thomas Aquinas will maintain 8th grade as the primary year for the Sacrament of Confirmation. High School students seeking Confirmation will be accommodated amongst their peers. Confirmation candidates will be catechized in a one-year format beginning in the fall, with the celebration of Confirmation in the following spring.

Confirmation sessions meet Sunday evenings during the academic year at Our Lady of the Rosary Hall or Dermody Center from 7:00-8:30pm (see map below). See the STAY Calendar below for session dates.  Sacramental catechesis for Confirmation will be conducted on a weekly basis. Regular weekly sessions will include faith-based learning with their teen peers.

In preparation for Confirmation, candidates will be expected to attend all STAY sessions regularly, profess the Catholic faith, participate in weekly Eucharistic celebrations (mass), complete documented service hours, write a saint essay, attend the mandatory Confirmation retreat, select a faith-filled active Catholic sponsor (See Sponsor Guidelines below), and choose a Confirmation name which depicts the teen's religious/spiritual transformation by the power of the Holy Spirit (optional).

Enrollment and Absence Policy

Enrollment, attendance, and active participation are very important in order to prepare properly for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Students must be formally enrolled in STAYouth Ministry and attending weekly sessions by September 28, 2008, in order to be eligible for the Sacrament of Confirmation in the spring of 2009.  Furthermore, candidates for Confirmation are allowed no more than three (3) unexcused absences between September 21, 2008, and May 30, 2009.
